The tomb of Al Mahdi in Khartoum. He led the rebellion against the British in 1884, destroyed much of Khartoum, built Omdurman as his capital city, and declared Sudan an independent Islamic Caliphate. The British army claimed that it destroyed the tomb and threw Mahdi’s body in the Nile.
