By the beginning of the first millennium, Egypt then fell into disarray and was occupied by other states. The Cushites of Napata conquered Memphis for a while and established themselves as the 25th dynasty of Egypt and partially repelled the Assyrians and Libyans in 671 BC. These are the Napataiian pyramids which revived the the tradition of pyramids as burial grounds after that traditions had died two thousand years earlier.
